| The
1860 established St.Xavier's College has a Motto that says - 'Nihil Ultra', literally
meaning 'Nothing Beyond'. Figuratively, it means 'The aim is set on the highest
Ideals'.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) announced
in an unprecedented statement that it would recommend Autonomy for the institution.
This decision came about after the team's recent visit cum analysis to the city's
very elite college. The NAAC team also announced that St Xavier's College complied
with all the requirements of an educational institution par excellence devoid
of any political influence and can rightfully be counted among the foremost centres
of excellence in the country. The NAAC team further added on that the college
qualifies to be a deemed university within the next decade.
St. Xavier's
College houses about 4,000 students in a contemporary five-storeyed building that
includes libraries, reading rooms, well-equipped laboratories and class rooms.
St. Xavier's also boasts of being the Alma mater to some of the most exceptional
students, viz., Rabindranath Tagore, Jagadish Chandra Bose and Ramananda Chatterjee.
Even the Bengal Tiger - Saurav Ganguly studied in this college.
